Reference sizes are typical published values for an average
specimen, rounded to something defensible. A blue whale is not
exactly 24 m and a boulder is whatever you want it to be
— geologically, anything above 256 mm is a boulder, so
the small and large figures here are conventions rather than
definitions. Each row states the number it used.
